Earlier this month, I met up with two fabulous stylists from the Northeast Mall Toni and Guy (Jennifer and Dacia) to take photos for a national hair contest submission. These highly talented ladies are competing in a couple of different categories and needed to send in some images of their work.

Instantly, the project seemed like fun, but I became crazy excited when they mentioned cars, vintage gas pumps, and a rural environment. (Um, yes please.) Somehow, they had connections with a sweet couple who had an amazing chunk of land out in Terrell and it was a complete blast to shoot at – one could easily spend all day there. All of the models were kind as can be and did a wonderful job (even though we were all a bit toasty at some points). Any lady who can gracefully scale a ladder in heels deserves a prize! And I think the hair speaks for itself – amazing! It was so fun for me to participate in such a unique shoot – I wish the team all the best in the upcoming competition!

On Friday, March 26, there will be a marrow drive to help identify a matching donor. The drive will last until 8:00 pm, so you can even swing by after work on your way to meet friends for dinner. At the drive, you’ll get a quick cheek swab and have some information collected and sent to the national registry. If you are found to be a match, some more tests will be conducted and your extra cells could be harvested to save a life.

Sound cool? It gets better – there will be a benefit sale on Friday and Saturday to help cover the cost of processing the swabs. If you have items or cash you would like to donate, please call 817-738-5969.

When I grow up, I want to be as cool as Jesica and Evan.

(Heck – I’d even be tickled to be half as cool as these two.)

Jesica and Evan recently moved to the area (from California) and I am fortunate that they go to my congregation at church (and super duper blessed that Jesica serves in the youth program with me). Both Jesica and Evan are charming, charismatic, and their enthusiasm is downright contagious. When they approached me about doing a session for their Christmas cards, I was more than thrilled to have an excuse to hang with them at their beautiful home. I love being around playful couples and it was so sweet to see the love and warmth that Jesica and Evan exhibit for one another. They are a team in every sense of the word and I know that they have wonderful things ahead of them.

If you want to make your heart happy, click HERE or on one of the photos below to see a slide show of Jesica and Evan’s Christmas card session. Jesica and Evan – thank you guys SO much for your awesome friendship and for such a fun session! I hope you both enjoy your first Christmas in Texas – we are lucky to have you here!

If you answered yes, my dear friends, have I got a deal for you – on September 1st (Monday) through September 3rd (Wednesday), you can make all of these things happen at once!

Head on over to to the Chili’s in Bedford (SH 121 and Central Drive) and enjoy a great meal. Tell your waiter that you are there for the “60 Mile Mamas.” Just by doing those two things, 10% of your ticket will go towards these great ladies who are going to be participating in the Breast Cancer 3-day (two of which are my sisters in law). The whole group has been training and working hard to prepare for this event, which raises a ton of money for Susan G. Komen.

Can’t make it to Bedford but still want to help out? Check out the 60 Mile Mama’s team page to make a difference.

First off, I want to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone lately. I’ve been battling some health issues that came out of nowhere and spent a good chunk of time in the hospital in June (first time ever and hopefully my last). The road to recovery has been longer and harder than I thought and I’ve appreciated the understanding and patience that has accompanied the get well messages. I’ve never had an experience like this before and it has been a struggle in so many ways. Edits and responses have been slower than normal over the last month, but I’m hoping that the worst is behind me and things will return to normal soon. Again – thanks for your prayers, concern, and patience. I am blessed to have the best clients in the world and will continue to serve you as quickly as I can.

I have posts that cover shoots going back to April, but I wanted to kick things off by showcasing the wonderful Jena and Marc. Unfortunately, their wedding came at a time when I was in the hospital. Even though I tried to tell my doctor that I could drag the IV tree down the aisle with me, it was clear that I wasn’t going to be released anytime soon. I’ve never missed a wedding in my years of shooting, but I always have a backup plan for the unexpected. My ultra-fabulous second shooters, Jeromy and Katie, stepped in and did a great job in capturing Jena and Marc’s special day. I’ve worked with both Jeromy and Katie on tons of weddings and know that they can shoot any event in their sleep. When the wedding was over, I got a full report of the evening and heard what a wonderful night it was. The ceremony was warm, genuine, and full of joy, and the reception was an energy-filled celebration of this couple’s union. Every guest seemed to thoroughly enjoy the festivities and there was plenty of dancing, laughing, speeches, and happy glances to personify the fun and cheer this couple shares. Give your eyes a treat and check out the slide show from Jena and Marc’s wedding by clicking HERE or on one of the photos below.

Tonight is the American Heart Association Heart Ball in Fort Worth, Texas. Funds raised at the Heart & Soul Ball directly benefit everyone through the continued funding of ongoing educational programs and biomedical research, resulting in lives saved and enhanced health and wellness throughout the Greater Tarrant County community. Red Brick Photography has donated a portrait session to the silent auction this year and is a supporter of the AHA’s efforts.

As someone who is around weddings and awesome loving couples frequently, the word “heart” is common. We often use the phrase that we love someone with our whole heart. I have to say that beyond that, I often make the mistake of not giving my heart much thought. With health issues and risks on the rise in our society, it’s great that the AHA and other similar organizations are doing what they can to raise awareness and provide tools for us to all lead healthier, fuller lives.

From the AHA website:

“Coronary heart disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans today. Stroke is the third leading cause of death, behind heart disease and cancer, and a leading cause of serious, long-term disability.

All cardiovascular diseases combined claim 1 million lives every year — more than the next 16 causes of death combined and almost twice the number of deaths caused by all forms of cancer.”

If you’re interested in supporting the AHA, you can go HERE to learn about different ways to give.

Yesterday, Jeromy and I went to Grapevine Lake. All weekend, he had been saying that he wanted to go up there and take pictures. Grapevine Lake is very special to us – it is where we shared our first kiss and it’s a common spot for us to just go spend time. We often go for long drives in the area, or just walk and talk. We’ve had many wonderful memories there.

Jeromy grabbed the tripod and the camera and we went on our way. We strolled until we got close to the area where we shared our first kiss over a year and a half ago (the exact spot is under water currently). Jeromy set up the tripod and told me to go by the shore so he could see if I would be in the frame. I told him I looked horrible but he said that we were just messing around and that if things went well, we would come back and take some nice couple pictures.

I stepped into frame and Jeromy grabbed the camera remote and headed over by me. We shared a kiss and looked at the water. Then, he looked at me and smiled. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a little box – he looked at me and asked, “Will you marry me?” I couldn’t believe it – I was shocked, excited, happy, and crying – all at once. I remember hopping a couple of times and just grabbing the poor guy.

It goes without saying that I am beyond thrilled. I love Jeromiah with all of my heart and can’t believe how we have been brought into each other’s lives. He truly is my best friend and soul mate. I’m looking forward to our wonderful life ahead. Like many of my clients and friends, I will be starting the wedding planning process. I’m fortunate to have been exposed to so many great ideas due to my involvement with Red Brick Photography.
