When I met Kelli and Dustin, I saw a couple that was on fire for each other and they proved to be a sizzling pair during their engagement session at Reunion Ranch. I’ve eaten up details about their big day since we all met… an outdoor ceremony, horse-drawn carriage, and visions of a sunset were all described and I looked forward to their day with great anticipation.
The big day arrived and there were thunderstorms overhead. While we all had hoped that they would clear so things could occur as planned, the on and off again precipitation became too much of a risk and it was decided that the ceremony would be held indoors. While most brides would have been upset about the change of plans, Kelli kept a positive attitude and filled the reception hall with smiles as chairs were brought in and set up. Jeromy, who assisted that evening, and I headed down to the cabin to check on the guys. Never before have I seen such merriment and excitement from a group of groomsmen! Dustin has a great group of friends who showed genuine enthusiasm for him and it was almost like I walked into a party.
The time for the ceremony arrived and the rain cleared long enough for Kelli to arrive in her carriage. I think my favorite moment was watching Dustin as he saw her arrive through the window – I’ve never seen him smile so big! The ceremony was perfect and before we knew it, reception hall was transformed for a great party.
Right before Kelli and Dustin had their first dance, the storms picked back up and the power went out. A generator was quickly brought in and the DJ booth had enough power to play music. Even though it might have seemed at first glance that things were going wrong, we all looked around and saw a beautiful, candle-lit room that felt more intimate and romantic. I overheard a guest say, “Man – I hope the lights stay off… I kinda like it better this way.” The reception resumed and it wasn’t long before everyone was rockin’ it. Everyone was on the dance floor and having a great time. Some work lights plugged into the generator aided the toasts and cake cutting, and all was well. Both Kelli and Dustin had such a great outlook the entire day and I know that they will be able to get through anything together. Even though there were some changes in their original plans, it still worked out to be a beautiful evening and one of the most fun weddings I’ve been to. A special thanks to Kelli and Dustin for allowing me to be part of such a great evening – you both are some of the kindest, most generous people I know and it’s clear that you have many happy years ahead.
