Since I have started a blog feature for redbrickphoto.com, I would like to try to go back and describe some of the recent shoots I have done. One of the most memorable weddings this summer was Laura and Craig’s, which took place in July. Both the ceremony and reception were held at the Arlington Museum of Art. Before the ceremony even started, Laura was busy helping to set chairs and tables up and was as cool as a cucumber. This feeling of calm was evident with all of the family and wedding party as well. From the start of the event, I really got the impression that this would be a fun gathering to celebrate the union of a wonderful couple. There was no stress or worries – just smiles all around. Even both moms were jovial and joking around the whole time.
The one thing that stuck out in my mind about the evening was how much this couple loves their little daughter. The little one was lovingly incorporated into the evening and both Laura and Craig were beaming with pride. Their excitement for their family was refreshing and invigorating.
Fun was everywhere at the reception. Laura made Craig’s groom’s cake, which is by far one of the most original ideas I have ever seen – it was Han Solo trapped in carbonite (recreated via cake, of course). I was impressed with the detail and attention she put into it.
It was amazing to be part of such a unique event. The museum is a wonderful venue to shoot at. I was touched by the kindness of Laura and Craig, as well as their guests and family. I was approached on multiple occassions and would briefly be engaged in a chat about the evening or there would be people checking to see if I needed anything. I remember feeling like I, too, was part of the celebration and the entire evening was nothing but a good time for me. I appreciate the chance to witness a new beginning for such a sweet family.
